The project was supposed to drop this Friday.
When news first broke about 6ix9ine’s arrest by federal authorities earlier this week, some fans speculated that the entire thing was promo for his new album, DUMMY BOY. The charges are very real, however, and they’re having consequences for his album’s release schedule. According to DJ Akademiks, the Brooklyn rapper’s new album has been delayed indefinitely and will not come out on Friday as planned.
“This is not an assumption or rumor. I am confirming that 6ix9ine’s DUMMY BOYalbum will not be coming out on Friday,” Akademiks said in a video uploaded this morning. “Based on a multitude of different reasons, and of course you have to keep in mind that he’s not here to promote it and he’s not here to release it the capacity that he wants it to be released, not to mention there’s a case hanging over his head. You want to make sure everything is in his best interest, not just in the best interest in making money… It will be coming shortly, his album, but this timing is not the time for the album to be released.”
DUMMY BOY is set to feature a lengthy list of popular rappers, including Kanye West, Nicki Minaj, Lil Baby, Gunna, Bobby Shmurda, Tory Lanez, and A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie. Both Kanye and Nicki Minaj were already involved in controversy surrounding the album, when a Beverly Hills mansion 6ix9ine had rented to shoot a video for the project was shot up.
6ix9ine is currently incarcerated in Brooklyn, where his legal issues are just beginning to play out. The young rapper faces six federal charges, including armed robbery, racketeering, and drug trafficking, and could face anywhere from a few years to life in prison. According to Akademiks, the album could still be released soon, but fans will have to wait and see if and when that happens.
